Here Are All of the Places You Can Visit Without A Visa
It just got a lot easier to navigate the labyrinth of visa regulations.
You've finally booked that multi-stop trip around the world, have all your travel gear ready to go, and a step-by-step itinerary sketched out—then you panic. "Can I get into Cambodia without a visa?" "Is my Australian travel companion going to be able to breeze through immigration at the same destinations that I will?" Yes, the world of visa regulations—often leading to hours spent surfing impenetrable embassy websites or on the phone with bureaucrats in the capital—can be a confusing place.
If only there was an online tool that could tell you clearly and succinctly what kind of visa preparation you'll need to undertake before flying. Well, of course there is—because this is 2016 and the Internet provides. Passport Index is your one-stop shop for all things passport, but by far, the most useful tool on the site is the 'Compare' table, where you can input your passport and see the visa regulations for every country on the planet—and whether you can waltz in visa-free, buy one on arrival, get one in advance, or even if the destination offers an eTA (an electronic visa that can be purchased online). The tool also allows users to input multiple passports in case a dual citizen wants to know which passport to bring, or a group wants to compare who is going to have to do the most leg-work before the trip. Users, too, can also compare requirements by destination, making for a fun snapshot of geopolitics and sometimes seemingly arbitrary rules. (Why, you ask, can a citizen of the Marshall Islands enter Indonesia visa-free, but a Micronesian needs that stamp? Beats us.)
That's not all the website does: Passport Index also includes tools that show you what each one looks like(neat!) and a Global Passport Power Rank that assigns a score to every passport on Earth, based on how easy it is to travel (Germany and Sweden are tied at number one). So whether you're trying to plan a trip based on the easiest immigration experience or you just want to get sucked into the strange and fascinating world of passport design, regulations, and power, you'll be glad the site exists. We'll be here planning our visa-free trip around the world: Vanuatu, here we come.
